SHADOW RECORDS

Technically defined, shadow records are unofficial, unknown, or overlooked data sets that exist outside official documentation systems. Shadow records usually contain sensitive information, and their existence outside of set protocols and standard operating procedures often categorizes them as high risk records of information.

Conceptually, a shadow record is not the thing itself, or its reflection, but an impression that resembles the whole just enough for it to be discernible.

As a project, SHADOW RECORDS borrows from both the technical and conceptual definitions of these words. Everything creates a shadow- an unofficial, unknown, or overlooked record of time and movement and change and growth. Making this work is an exercise in relating to my own shadow and the shadows around me. What can be learned by spending time with a shadow? What are the risks and challenges in relating to a thing or place through shadows? What are the rewards?
